Biography

As Of Today is a name with its origins in early 2003, although the bands timeline can be traced back much further than this. With ex-members from Labrat, Kilkus, Anoxia, De Profundis and more, As Of Today is a band with a long and turbulent history.

Signs of the bands present form and line-up began to show back in 2004, with ex-members PJ Close and Ravi Paul on guitar and bass, Jamie Lee-Furlong on guitar, David Clark-Waugh on drums and former bassist Craig Donoghue taking up the position of vocalist. At this point the band was busy hitting the dives of London to perform tracks from their melodic death metal EP Demo(n). It was also around this time that the band was moving into their own purpose-built studio, as well as making plans to begin their first full-length album.

Fortunes changed early the next year when PJ Close parted ways with the band owing to musical differences, followed soon after by bassist Ravi Paul who decided to leave in order to pursue his own interests. Unwavered by this double blow, the band pressed on with rehearsals and auditions, and it wasn’t long afterwards that De Profundis members Charles Allin and Roman Subbotin stepped into the vacant roles on guitar and bass.

From this point the band ploughed ahead with renewed determination, greater musical prowess, and a new, more progressive direction. Song writing continued and new tracks were dropped into the set alongside older, more established favourites.

The band was busy now, with more and more gig bookings coming in, and it was this turn of events that would prove to be the demise of the 2005 As Of Today line-up. With two regularly-working bands to make time for, it wouldn’t be long before Charles Allin and Roman Subbotin would have make a choice between the two. Charles made the decision to become a member of As Of Today exclusively, whereas Roman decided to fully dedicate himself to De Profundis and amicably parted ways with As Of Today.

Once again the band journeyed on, unperturbed by yet further line-up instability. In late 2007 the remaining four members headed for the studio and started work on their fully self-produced debut album. The process was plagued by unholy work schedules, university deadlines and personal traumas, but in early 2009 the band emerged triumphantly with their epic progressive-metal opus Corridors.

It was thanks to the release of Corridors that the bands line-up problems were swiftly solved – upon hearing the album, friend Wesley Thompson jumped at the opportunity to audition for the band, and within days he was officially appointed as As Of Today’s new bassist.
